Re/insurance broker BMS buys up Spanish broker to build specialty lines

Re/insurance broker  BMS has bought up a family-owned specialty insurance brokerage to cement its foothold on the Iberian peninsula and extend its span of specialty line coverage.

The Eisenar insurance brokerage, with offices in Seville and Madrid, will bring BMS a history in industrial risks and professional sports insurance, including its flagship client, the Seville Football Club. Eisenar also has deals in coverage for hospitality, agriculture, surety, renewable energy, cyber, construction and manufacturing.

Carlos Sanchez-Belda, son to the company’s founder, will take a seat on BMS Iberia’s executive committee. He and his sister Maria del Mar Sanchez-Belda will retain their leading roles in the unit.

The CEO of BMS Iberia, Fernando Claro, commented: “This is an important part of the journey for BMS Iberia which reinforces our reputation as a fast-growing and specialist (re)insurance broker. We are a top-five affinity broker in Spain, and we are also making investments into other specialty areas. Eisenar’s family run culture is one of their most important strategic assets. Their young and dynamic leadership team will be instrumental in consolidating our market presence, by driving the development of innovative solutions that are customised to the needs of each affinity and client. We are delighted to welcome colleagues from Eisenar on board.”
