Rokstone takes flight in aviation with AIG veteran, Allianz backing

Rokstone, the Aventum Group’s international re/insurance MGA, has tapped an aviation and aerospace veteran from AIG as it looks to expand its capabilities in this sector, having secured a capacity deal with Allianz Commercial.

Jordan Lanford joins the MGA as global head of aviation, based in Atlanta.

Lanford joins Rokstone later this month after serving his notice with AIG where he was head of aerospace for North America. With more than 20 years’ experience of aviation, Lanford spent 17 years at AIG and began his career as a commercial pilot and flight instructor.

In his new role, Lanford will be responsible for growing the global aviation team and portfolio, initially focussing on North America and developing the MGA’s existing portfolio in the Middle East. Rokstone plans to further invest in building out the aviation team with respected aviation professionals and technology solutions to enhance the trading experience.

The North America facility will be built in collaboration with Allianz Commercial, and will concentrate on SME business: light aircraft, commercial aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles, Commercial General Liability (airports, fixed base operators and service providers) and Manufacturers’ Products Liability for non-critical component providers.

Dave Warfel, regional head of aviation for North America, Allianz Commercial, said: “We are excited to announce this collaboration with Rokstone which will allow Allianz to further expand our reach into previously untapped sectors. With an already well-established position and a proven track record, Rokstone can now significantly expand their offerings and solutions across the industry. I look forward to working with Jordan in his new role. He brings the exact level of leadership, knowledge and experience that will enable Rokstone to deliver on their objectives."

James Potter, CEO of Rokstone, said: “We’re very excited to have Jordan on board with market leading support from Allianz Commercial. He is one of the most experienced and knowledgeable aviation underwriters in the world and we’re excited to be working with him to develop and grow a global market leading aviation portfolio. We continue to broaden our Speciality (Re)insurance portfolio, expanding both our footprint and our appetite, working alongside our capacity partners to continue to outperform the market. Our specialist knowledge, use of technology, including an in-house market leading actuarial team based in London, and our disciplined approach to underwriting means we protect our capacity collaborations long term and provide excellent returns for our capacity providers.”

Gordon Browne, global head of specialty, Allianz Commercial, added: “By working with sophisticated operators like Rokstone we are able to expand our reach across Specialty lines. In this instance we are building out our North America SME Aviation offering and widening our product offering for aviation customers. We have worked closely with Rokstone for many years and look forward to deepening the relationship.”
