Saga seeks new group CEO as Lance Batchelor decides to leave in 2020

Saga, a UK-based specialist insurer for life after 50, has announced that its group chief executive officer Lance Batchelor is set to leave the firm at the end of the current financial year in January 2020.

Batchelor will retire after six years with the business. A process has started to recruit his successor.

Lance joined Saga as group CEO in March 2014. Prior to that he help senior marketing positions at Procter & Gamble, Amazon and Vodafone, before becoming CEO of Tesco Mobile between 2008 and 2011, and CEO of Domino’s Pizza Group between 2011 and 2014.

Patrick O’Sullivan, chairman of Saga, said: “Lance has led Saga with a resolute focus on reinvestment and rebuilding a truly customer centric organisation. On behalf of the Board, we are grateful for his contribution and wish him every success for the future."

Batchelor commented: “It has been a huge privilege to lead Saga. I am very proud of the journey we have taken to modernise the business and refocus it on customers. We now have enhanced products and the infrastructure needed for a sustainable and healthy future. Over the coming months, I look forward to continuing to execute the new strategy in our insurance business and seeing the launch of Spirit of Discovery in a few weeks.”
