TMK expands intellectual property insurance offering

Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK) has launched a specialist intellectual property (IP) insurance offering in France, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

TMK already provides IP insurance to clients in the UK, US and several continental European markets through its London and Frankfurt offices. TMK’s decision to expand its offering into these new markets is a response to the growing demand for IP cover from businesses in those locations, according to a statement. IP cover is available through its enterprise risk department based in Paris, led by enterprise risk manager Marie L’Affeter.

According to TMK, its offering is the only standalone IP insurance product available in the French market and covers a broad range of exposures that are frequently excluded from existing policies, such as patent infringement and trade secrets.

TMK’s intellectual property policy includes coverage for infringement of patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyright, registered designs, domain names, with a limit of €25 million.

“The value of intangible assets, such as IP, is rapidly increasing,” said L’Affeter. “While France is home to some of the world’s major patent innovators, until now, these businesses have not had access to comprehensive IP insurance protection. Companies are becoming increasingly aware of their exposure to this risk and I am delighted that we will now provide coverage to this under-served market.”
