VIG Re swoops on Munich Re to grow facultative book across Europe

Czech Republic-based reinsurer  VIG Re has hired a senior executive from Munich Re to lead the expansion of its facultative footprint across the European markets and drive growth in a positive market environment.

Markus Schmid (pictured) has been appointed as new head of facultative, where he will lead the overall strategic direction of VIG Re's facultative underwriting. Based in Prague, he will report to Stephan Wirz, member of the board responsible for assumed property & casualty as well as life & health reinsurance business.

Schmid joins VIG Re from the Munich Re Group, where he held various underwriting positions both on the direct and treaty side in Munich, New York and Zurich.

Wirz said: “Markus brings a broad and in-depth underwriting experience from various markets to the VIG Re underwriting team. We count on his professional expertise and passion to support the expansion of the Company’s facultative footprint across our markets.”
