XL lures AIG exec

XL Group has appointed Mike Smith as Southeast regional underwriting leader in its North America property insurance business.

Based in Atlanta, Smith will report to senior vice president and head of North America general property Wade Pitman.

Smith returns to Atlanta after working in San Francisco as AIG’s regional underwriting manager for the Northwest where he addressed the insurance and loss prevention needs of large, complex commercial properties.

Prior to his most recent position, Smith spent nearly two decades in Atlanta with AIG and Industrial Risk Insurers.

Michele Sansone, president of XL Group’s North America property, said: “Our North America property underwriters, risk engineers and claims specialists have built a strong reputation for developing effective property protection programs for highly protected industrial and commercial properties. In welcoming experienced industry talent like Mike, we add more bench strength to address our clients’ most complex property risks.”

“Mike’s familiarity with the southeast regional industry coupled with his proven success in addressing complex property risks positions us well for continued profitable growth throughout the region.”
