Lloyd’s CEO hails new general counsel as ‘role model’ for future leaders

Insurance and reinsurance marketplace Lloyd’s of London has confirmed the permanent successor to Peter Spires as general counsel.

Following her interim tenure after Spires’ departure in August 2023, Claire Schrader (pictured) has been appointed as the permanent general counsel at Lloyd’s, responsible for managing legal risk at Lloyd’s. She will remains a member of Lloyd’s Executive Committee.

Schrader is a qualified solicitor, with over 20 years’ experience in law and the insurance sector. She has been with Lloyd’s since 2000, during which time she has built a strong reputation within the Corporation and throughout the market as a trusted legal adviser. Lloyd’s said she has extensive knowledge of the insurance industry and regulatory frameworks that support the Lloyd’s market.

John Neal, Lloyd’s CEO, said: “During Claire’s time at Lloyd’s she has built a strong reputation among her colleagues in the Corporation and throughout the market as a trusted legal adviser. She is a great role model for our future leaders, and I’m extremely pleased to confirm her permanently in a role which is critical to Lloyd’s delivering on its strategic priorities.”
