Markel’s Nephila grows cat book by 75% despite insurance strain

Markel’s insurance-linked securities (ILS) arm Nephila ramped up premium volumes by 75% in the second quarter of 2025, even as the group’s insurance unit saw its combined ratio deteriorate on reserve strain tied to legacy and reinsurance exposures.
