Munich Re picks 27-year insider to lead healthtech unit as CEO

Munich Re HealthTech, a division of Munich Re that provides reinsurance, primary insurance and insurance-related risk solutions, has appointed a new chief executive officer to drive it growth strategy.

Bilal Ramadan has been promoted to CEO of Munich Re HealthTech. He will report to Owais Ansari, head of Munich Re Life & Health, MENA, Pakistan & Takaful business.

Ramadan succeeds Gerry Raftopoulos, who stepped down from his role in February 2024. Raftopoulos built Munich Re HealthTech over the past 28 years, expanding to 19 markets spanning Europe, Latin America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. 

Since January 2016, Ramadan has been serving as the chief delivery officer at MRHT. Through his 27-year career with the group, Ramadan has gained extensive experience in a variety of health insurance-related concepts, including technology, management consulting, and related practices and procedures.

In his new role, Ramadan will be responsible for driving the strategy of Munich Re HealthTech (MRHT) to strengthen its position in the health insurance industry. He will oversee the product development and commercial growth of the company.
