Nat cat losses slide to $42bn in H1 as US dodges worst of SCS outbreaks

Insured natural catastrophe losses fell to $42 billion in the first half of 2026, with major severe convective storm (SCS) outbreaks largely steering clear of the US regions most exposed, according to Swiss Re Institute.
