AEGIS London boosts terrorism book with two hires

AEGIS London has added two to its terrorism and aviation war account with the aim of increasing its underwriting footprint in the market.

Ben Lockwood, formerly deputy class underwriter for terrorism at the Watkins Syndicate, joins in the newly-created role of terrorism underwriter, reporting to head of aviation war and terrorism Kevin Mills. Lockwood is joined by James McDonald, who takes the role of underwriting assistant, war and terror.

Lockwood began his career with the Watkins Syndicate in 2008 as terrorism underwriting assistant and was promoted to assistant underwriter in 11 months, gaining his full underwriting authority in 2010. He is a graduate of the Lloyd’s Market Association’s apprenticeship programme and holds a diploma from the Chartered Insurance Institute.

“The terrorism market is evolving and expanding, and as it does so, AEGIS London wants to be at the forefront of the market offering innovative products that our clients want to buy,” said David Croom-Johnson, active underwriter at AEGIS London.

“In Ben Lockwood, we have attracted one of the most well-thought-of young underwriters in the market. The speed of his promotions at his previous syndicate says a lot about his calibre.  He adds real strength and depth to our team, ably led by Kevin Mills.”

Mills added: “Currently, the flow of terrorism and political violence business into the market is increasing. We believe that this environment presents us with an excellent opportunity to expand our book of business. Ben’s appointment increases our technical knowledge and leadership profile significantly, which together with increases in our maximum line and overall risk appetite, will enable us to provide an enhanced product and service to brokers and clients.”
