AIG appoints government affairs head from PwC

American International Group (AIG) has hired Ed Barron from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as head of international government affairs, based in London.

Barron joined PwC in 2002 as a director and has held senior roles in the global insurance regulation practice for the last nine years. He has over 15 years of experience in international government affairs pertaining to the insurance space, having worked directly with the industry’s leading supervisors and advised a number of insurance companies.

In his new role, Barron will be responsible for developing a cohesive, global perspective and engagement strategy for legislative and regulatory matters relevant to driving the future success of the company. He will report to Tom Leonardi, executive vice president, government affairs, public policy and communications.

Barron will lead the management and monitoring of AIG’s governmental policy outside the US, and provide strategic counsel to AIG’s international businesses. He will work in close coordination with the regulatory team overseen by executive vice president and general counsel Lucy Fato, which maintains responsibility for advising on legal and regulatory compliance issues and handling day-to-day management of regulatory matters.

“As a global insurer with numerous regulators, Ed’s experience in bringing together a comprehensive approach to best-in-class communications and engagement with our diverse network of stakeholders will be invaluable as we position AIG for the future as a growing, profitable leader in the insurance industry,” said Leonardi.
