Antares appoints chairman and political risks expert
Antares, the specialist Lloyd’s insurer, has made two new appointments. Martin Sullivan has been appointed as non-executive chairman of Antares Managing Agency while David Wright has joined as political risks manager within the political and financial risks specialty lines portfolio of Antares.
Sullivan began his insurance career in 1971 with AIG, where he served for 37 years, ultimately becoming president and chief executive in 2005. In 2010, he joined Willis as group deputy chairman and chairman and chief executive of Willis Global Solutions.
Terry Hayday, who retires as chairman of Antares, said: “An excellent result in 2012 and a strong start to 2013 demonstrate Antares’ significant achievements since becoming an independent managing agency in 2010.
“As the business continues to develop, it is appropriate to appoint a chairman able to focus more time on working closely with the executive management team to deliver on an ambitious growth plan. Martin Sullivan is one of the giants of the sector and Antares is fortunate to have secured the services of such an accomplished leader.”
Wright joins Antares from CV Starr Underwriting Agents, where as head of political risk, he was responsible for the establishment and development of its market leading political risks and credit division. Prior to this, he held senior positions at XL, where he was deputy underwriter of Syndicates 861 and 1209 and global practice leader of political and financial risks.
Commenting on this appointment, Joe Battle, Active Underwriter of Antares Syndicate 1274, said: “Political risks is an exciting specialty, important in the Lloyd’s market and dovetails well with our existing book, particularly our growing terrorism portfolio.
“David joins with a proven track record of developing successful books of business and is a renowned expert in Political and Financial Risks underwriting. His appointment reflects our continuing commitment to attracting the best the market has to offer, to allow us to successfully expand into specialist lines which complement our existing portfolio.”
