Atrium partners with AI insurtech Tautona to streamline claims process

Atrium Underwriters, the managing agent for Lloyd’s Syndicate 609, partnered with Lloyd’s Lab graduate insurtech Tautona to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to automate the initial evaluation of North American property claims.

The extensive pilot of the technology has proved to be at least as effective as human intervention but is significantly faster and with greater consistency of decision making, according to Atrium.

Atrium’s US clients and retail brokers will be the main beneficiaries of the technology, which speeds up the process of notification and resolution of claims.

Complex US ISO policy wordings which can run to more than 100 pages, have been analysed and will be read at the point a claim is made, using elements of artificial intelligence, the company said.

The system will categorise proximate cause and make an initial assessment of the claim’s validity, before it is adjusted and managed by Atrium’s DCAs and claims team.

Jonathon Hopper (pictured left), Atrium Underwriters said: “ Atrium is focusing on delivering faster and more consistent claims outcomes for brokers and clients by taking this first step into leveraging artificial intelligence to streamline its claims process. In doing so we are delivering on the Lloyd’s Blueprint 2’s priority to reduce the claims lifecycle and it is extremely positive to be working in partnership with Tautona which is a graduate of the Lloyd’s Lab. Atrium prides itself on the quality of its claims management and strongly believes that this significant investment will achieve improved outcomes across our North American property claims.”

John Holdsworth (pictured right), Tautona added: “This is an exciting project to be working with Atrium on. We have worked hard to develop a machine learning technology platform that delivers tangible benefits to the broker and end client. With extensive, development and testing completed, we are confident in the success of implementation with Atrium.”
