AXA XL Re veteran/Bermuda CEO exits after 28 years; replacement revealed

AXA XL Reinsurance has appointed a new chief executive officer (CEO) of Bermuda replacing Paul Simons who has left the carrier after nearly three decades.

Mark Twite (pictured), currently chief financial officer, has been appointed to the role of CEO Bermuda reinsurance.

He previously held a number of senior positions including head of strategic business finance for the AXA XL division, while also maintaining his role as head of assumed reinsurance finance.

In his new role, Twite will be responsible for the strategic growth of the business in Bermuda, ensuring capital is effectively deployed in order to drive a stable and sustainable portfolio as part of AXA XL reinsurance division.

Simons has spent the majority of his 30+ years reinsurance industry career at AXA XL and its predecessor XL Re, which he joined in 1994. Prior to his recent roles as CEO of AXA XL Reinsurance Bermuda and head of property, global markets, he held progressively senior underwriting roles within XL, XL Catlin, and AXA XL.

Nancy Bewlay, chief executive officer, reinsurance said: “Mark’s 30 year experience in the industry coupled with his 18 year tenure at AXA XL in Bermuda places him in the ideal position to deliver for our global clients and brokers in this key market and lead our talented team.”
