AXIS Re poaches Swiss Re professional liability specialist

AXIS Re, part of AXIS Capital, has poached a professional liability reinsurance specialist from Swiss Re.

Neil Monahan was previously head of broker relations, professional liability lines, at Swiss Re. He joins AXIS Re as senior vice president, professional liability, leading its professional liability reinsurance underwriting business in the US.

He will report to Jon Colello, president and chief underwriting officer, US, AXIS Re. He will be based out of AXIS’ New York office.

Before Swiss Re, Monahan began his re/insurance career at Cigna Special Risk Facilities and later held senior underwriting roles at Reliance National and PMA Re.

“Neil’s hiring is an important step in solidifying AXIS Re’s leadership in Professional Liability reinsurance,” said Colello. “He has a broad range of experience in both medical and non-medical Professional Liability, which will help us grow this business and deepen our relationships with clients and partners in distribution.

“His appointment will enable AXIS Re to further deliver upon our promise of providing robust and agile solutions, backed by market-leading expertise and skilled underwriting, that help our clients effectively mitigate and transfer complex risks.”
