Berkshire Hathaway Specialty brings ex-Zurich underwriter from hiatus

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) will bring a former  Generali and  Zurich underwriter back into the insurance business after a four-year switch to the client side.

Bart De Wilde (Pictured) comes to BHSI to lead its property underwriting team and portfolio in Switzerland. De Wilde arrives after having spent four years as an insurance buyer for building materials group Holcim. De Wilde had spent nearly a decade in insurance prior to that move, starting at Generali and then moving his way up the ladder over nearly eight years at Zurich.

BHSI opened its new office in Zurich, Switzerland in 2022, and is proceeding to grow a team offering a full line of commercial property, casualty, and specialty insurance solutions.

BHSI country manager for Switzerland Leander Metzger said:  “I am very excited to be expanding our Swiss operations with leaders and teammates whose excellent capability and character will drive the best possible experience for customers and brokers seeking stable property solutions. Bart will build and lead our property team, providing our reliable capacity, risk engineering and CLAIMS IS OUR PRODUCT philosophy to the Swiss marketplace.”
