The Bermuda Insurance Institute (BII) has appointed Andrew Soares to the position of chairman.
Soares currently serves as senior vice president, international treaty underwriter for Platinum Underwriters Bermuda.
Prior to joining Platinum Re, Soares worked for PartnerRe as a property-catastrophe underwriter after transitioning over from managing their reinsurance accounting and claim teams.
For the last two years he has served as vice-chairman at the BII and is also a recent past chairman of the BII’s education committee, a role he served in for several years.
Other officers appointed to the BII council were Shannon Totten, vice chairman, Philip Burrill, honorary treasurer, Carol Parker Trott, honorary secretary, and Chris Fisher, immediate past chairman.
Council members elected were Sandra DeSilva, Kathleen Faries, Roger Gillett, Leila Madeiros, Patrick Neal, Robert Paton, Chris Schaper, and Lynne Woolridge.
“I am pleased to partner with Andrew and continue our efforts to create a world class learning, development, and assessment organisation specifically focused on effective talent development within the insurance, reinsurance, and related industries,” said BII chief executive officer, Dawnnelle Walker.
Soares said: “I am a strong proponent of the Bermuda re/insurance market and of Bermudians achieving their fullest potential within the re/insurance industry.”
