Brit appoints Medniuk as non-exec chairman of Lloyd's managing agent

Specialty re/insurer Brit has appointed Tony Medniuk as non-executive chairman of its Lloyd’s managing agent Brit Syndicates, which is responsible for managing Syndicates 2987 and 2988.

Medniuk, who has served on the board of Brit Syndicates since November 2011, replaces Richard Ward, who's also stepping down from the board of Brit in September. Ward chaired Brit through its IPO and subsequent sale to Fairfax.

Medniuk has led various underwriting businesses in the Lloyd’s market. He has chaired the IUA, and has been a founder member of the London Insurance Market Reform Group and a member of both the Lloyd’s Claims Supervisory Board and the Lloyd’s Market Board.

Medniuk was managing director and chief underwriting officer of British Aviation Insurance Group, which acquired Associated Aviation Underwriters to become Global Aerospace, a specialist aerospace insurer, which Medniuk subsequently led as CEO. He has also held roles as lead underwriter for a number of syndicates during his career and served as chairman of Great Lakes Reinsurance UK (part of the Munich Re Group) between 2010 and 2016. Medniuk started his insurance career in 1970 with Marsh.

Mark Cloutier, executive chairman of Brit, commented: “Tony has had a highly successful career and his knowledge and experience of managing Lloyd’s syndicates makes him the right person to step into the role of non-executive Chairman of Brit Syndicates. Having served on its board for a number of years, he already knows Brit well.

"We would also like to thank Richard for his valuable contributions during his time as non-executive chairman of Brit Syndicates and on the Board of Brit.”
