Brit appoints new chief underwriting officer of BGSU

Speciality re/insurer Brit has appointed John King as chief underwriting officer (CUO) for its subsidiary Brit Global Specialty USA (BGSU).

King moves to BGSU from his current role as group executive underwriter at Brit Global Specialty in London.

In his new role, King will be based in Chicago, reporting to Nick Davies, president of BGSU. He will continue to work closely with Brit’s Group chief underwriting officer Christiern Dart.

King joined Brit in 2009, initially as short tail portfolio director, before becoming group executive underwriter.

Prior to joining Brit, King spent six years as a production underwriter at Beazley and played a key role in driving the build-out of its US platform. He started his career at Marsh, latterly holding the role of senior vice president and leading the US property broking team in London.

Davies commented: “We are pleased to welcome John to BGSU as Chief Underwriting Officer and we look forward to building on BGSU’s strong growth trajectory. John’s appointment will ensure that this growth continues to be underpinned by Brit’s underwriting discipline.”

Matthew Wilson, CEO of Brit, added: “Our US business has seen continued development over the last year and John’s appointment will further complement the significant progress being made on the ambitious strategy we have for our US platform.”
