Chaucer names replacement for retiring active underwriter

Specialty re/insurance group  Chaucer has promoted its head of energy, marine and aviation to the role of deputy active underwriter.

Kelan Hunt assumes the role of deputy active underwriter in addition to his existing responsibilities. He will work under Ed Lines, Chaucer’s active underwriter, and will replace him in that role when Lines retires at the end of the year after more than 25 years of service to the company.

Hunt has worked in the insurance industry for over 30 years, joining Chaucer in 2015 to lead the energy division. In 2019 he added responsibility for the marine and aviation divisions to his remit.

Prior to joining Chaucer Hunt worked for both brokers and re/insurers, including almost a decade with Arch Insurance leading its offshore and global energy operations. He has a deep understanding of Lloyd’s and the regulatory environment, which Chaucer said made him the natural choice as Lines’ successor.

Nicola Stacey, chief underwriting officer at Chaucer, praised Lines’ contribution to Chaucer over his 25 years with the firm, calling him “a formidable team leader” who “has helped the firm go from strength to strength.”
