Everest bolsters international reinsurance leadership in growth move

Everest Reinsurance, the reinsurance division of Everest Re Group, has unveiled two key international leadership appointments to further expand its business across Continental Europe, including specialty classes marine and credit & surety, as well as casualty and motor portfolios.

Harald Jacobsen (pictured) has been appointed senior vice president, head of Continental Europe, and pending regulatory approval, he will also assume the role of branch manager Zurich of Everest Reinsurance Company Ireland dac. He will be based in Zurich and reporting to Artur Klinger, head of international reinsurance. Mark Wallace has been appointed vice president, head of longtail and deputy CUO, reporting to Paul Tester, head of UK branch and chief underwriting officer.

In his new role, Jacobsen will oversee Everest’s reinsurance business across Continental Europe, including specialty classes marine and credit & surety. He will also be responsible for extending the specialty class offerings to clients outside the continent, creating synergies across the international business units. Jacobsen joined Everest in 2021 as head of Western Europe & property where he built the reinsurance team and focused on strengthening the company’s property underwriting in Europe. Prior to Everest, he led the Zurich Office of Chubb Tempest Re where he oversaw its profitable international property book. Jacobsen began his career in reinsurance as an underwriter for NewRe in Geneva writing UK, Irish and Nordic business.

Wallace will focus on further diversifying Everest’s casualty and motor portfolios. Previously, as Everest’s senior casualty underwriter, he played a key role in the growth of the London casualty treaty portfolio. Prior to joining Everest, Wallace spent nearly a decade at Hiscox as head of pricing for specialty classes where he was focused on a broad range of classes of business.
