Everest mines Liberty Mutual twice to build out primary wholesale insurance

The primary insurance division of  Everest Re has named two key appointments to primary wholesale insurance leadership, starting with a 2021 steal from  Liberty Mutual and including a follow-up nab from this year.

Casey Hartley (pictured), taken from Liberty Mutual just one year ago, has now been promoted to the post of head of US wholesale casualty. Hartley had been CUO of E&S casualty for the past year at Everest Insurance after roughly ten years throughout the Liberty Mutual organization.

Just one year on, Everest went straight back to the Liberty Mutual stable to nab Danielle Stewart who now takes up the newly created post of national head of wholesale distribution. Stewart will work with Hartley and the rest of the underwriting team “to lead a comprehensive national go-to-market strategy” to attack local markets.

At Liberty Mutual, Stewart had last served as director of business strategy for the group’s drive into mid-sized commercial profit centres. Prior to that, she managed a portfolio of primary casualty E&S and has also spent time in distribution leadership and underwriting roles.

Everest Insurance's president of US casualty Dave Sandler commented: “The leadership appointments of Casey and Danielle underscore our investment in our wholesale offering and reflect our progress advancing Everest's broader U.S. Casualty strategy and business. With Casey at the helm and the addition of Danielle leading our distribution strategy, we are well positioned to address the evolving needs of the wholesale marketplace with the service, speed and customization our partners have come to expect from Everest.”

Everest's head of North America distribution Marcus Cooper added: “The combination of Danielle’s underwriting and distribution experience uniquely positions her to lead the development of a strong long-term strategic roadmap that’s focused on our wholesale commitments, investments, and solutions. I look forward to Danielle’s buildout of our wholesale distribution network and the sustained growth of our Wholesale Casualty business under Casey’s leadership.”
