Gallagher recruits former rugby international to drive business development

Gallagher has recruited a former international rugby player to bolster its team of sports insurance specialists and drive business development in the UK.

Former England and Harlequins rugby player Jack Clifford (pictured) has joined Gallagher as a business development executive. He will work alongside development director, Nathan Hines, also a former professional rugby player.

Clifford played for Harlequins from 2011 until 2020 and for England between 2017 and 2020.

During his 100th game with Harlequins, he suffered a career ending injury which saw him being forced to retire from the professional game. Fortunately, he had career-ending injury insurance which protects against a loss in personal income as a result of a change of circumstances.

Having had first-hand experience of the importance of personal sports insurance, Clifford will lead on ensuring other players are aware of this product and its benefits. He will additionally work as part of the wider sports team looking after the insurance and risk management needs of rugby clubs across the country.

Clifford said: “I had a fantastic career in rugby and was lucky enough to play for the ‘Quins and England, however the reality of it is, injuries are common and I had my fair share of them during my playing career like most players.  Having access to career-ending insurance has really set me up for the next stage of my life – and I am delighted to join the team at Gallagher and help spread the word and ensure players are aware of this product and the protection it offers.

“The opportunity to join Gallagher with its close links to rugby, where I could use my sporting knowledge and personal experience, was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I look forward to working with the team to further develop our offering.”

Hines added: “We are delighted that Jack has joined us and he will be a key ambassador for Gallagher amongst the rugby playing community. Having himself had a career ending injury, Jack knows first-hand how important insurance is for professional sportspeople, both during and at the end of their careers.”
