Generali board approves group restructure as part of strategic plan

Generali’s board of directors has approved the new group structure proposed by Philippe Donnet, group CEO, which is intended to “fully support” the insurer’s strategic plan.

The strategic plan, titled Lifetime Partner 24 Driving Growth, and the restructure are expected to reinforce the role of the group head office in steering and coordinating the insurer’s Business Units.

These changes will support operational efficiency targets and accelerate the digital transformation of the group, as well as “further embedding sustainability into the core business".

The restructure and strategic plan will also redefine the organisational and geographical oversight of markets and multi-country lines of business to enable coordination and operating synergies.

Generali said that the new organisational structure builds on the strength of the group’s pool of talent, which includes the new composition of the Group Management Committee (GMC) which is focused on delivering the strategic plan.

All change

From September 1, 2022, Marco Sesana, current country manager Italy and Global Business Lines, will be appointed general manager in the group head office. He will oversee the group chief transformation officer, the group chief marketing & customer officer, the group chief investment officer, the life & health insurance group, group P&C, claims and reinsurance and group sustainability and social responsibility.

Effective from the same date, Giancarlo Fancel, currently group chief risk officer, will be appointed country manager Italy. Carlo Ferraresi, currently CEO of Cattolica Assicurazioni, will be appointed group chief risk officer and he will join the GMC.

A new Business Unit will also be created from September 1, 2022, which will include Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Giovanni Liverani, current country manager Germany and Austria & CEE officer and interim, will be appointed CEO Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Stefan Lehmann, currently chief business officer exclusive sales at  Generali Deutschland, will be appointed country manager Germany, reporting to the CEO of the new Business Unit, and will join the GMC.

Jaime Anchústegui will become CEO International, and the Business Unit International will extend its reach to the Eastern European countries. Further information is still to come on its organisation, the insurer said.

All the Global Business Lines -  Generali Corporate and Commercial,  Generali Employee Benefits and Arte  Generali - will be aggregated into the new Business Unit France, Europ Assistance and Global Business Lines, which will be headed by Jean-Laurent Granier.

And as of June 22, 2022, Simone Bemporad, group chief communications and public affairs officer, who has been named group spokesperson, and Antonio Cangeri, group general counsel, will both join the GMC.
