GRP’s Alan & Thomas acquires BIG Insurance

Alan & Thomas Insurance Group, part of Global Risk Partners (GRP), has acquired BIG Insurance, trading as Bournemouth Insurance Group, for an undisclosed sum.

BIG was founded as a family business in 1972 and writes commercial and personal lines insurance including private clients, fleet, commercial property, D&O, cyber and marine (through their own specialist Nationwide Marine Insurance division). All the team including vendors Jason Hicks and Paul Hicks will stay on under new ownership.

Julian Boughton (pictured), A&T CEO, said the latest deal for BIG follows on from the purchase of Aquilla Insurance Brokers in November last year. A&T has acquired 13 businesses since it was founded in 1975, and this acquisition is the third since it became part of GRP in 2017.

He said: “BIG has a local community footprint (A&T are headquartered in Poole), and I have followed their progress closely over the years.
