Hamilton hires Ironshore founder

Bermuda-based Hamilton Insurance Group has appointed Ironshore founder Bob Deutsch as chief strategy officer.

Deutsch will work with Hamilton’s executive management and report to group chief executive officer (CEO) Brian Duperreault.

Hamilton said that Deutsch will work to “identify opportunities for the ongoing development of the group’s operations outside of Bermuda, including both organic growth and strategic acquisitions.”

Deutsch has more than 30 years’ experience in the insurance and financial services sector, most recently as managing director at GCP Capital Partners. He is a founder and former CEO of Bermuda-based property casualty insurer Ironshore, former executive vice president and chief financial officer (CFO) of CNA Financial, and former president, chief actuary and CFO of Executive Risk, a start-up company acquired by Chubb.

Duperreault said: “I’m not sure I can think of a better person to hold the position of chief strategy officer at Hamilton Insurance Group than Bob Deutsch. Bob has done it all – as a chief actuary, a CFO, and a CEO, in start-ups and large corporations, both private and public – and he’s done it successfully. His capability, knowledge and experience will be of critical importance as we evolve from the small organisation we are now to a global company.”

Deutsch said: “I’ve known and respected Brian Duperreault for over three decades. The opportunity to work closely with him and the talented people at Hamilton to build a premier insurer and reinsurer, backed by a world class asset manager like Two Sigma, is tremendously exciting. I’m thrilled to be joining the company.”
