Hannover Re Bermuda reveals change of CEO

Hannover Re Bermuda has appointed Chantal Cardinez as chief executive as of July 1, 2020.

Cardinez is currently the CEO of Hannover Life Reassurance Bermuda and will take on her new responsibilities in addition to this role.

She joined Hannover Re in 2008 as the chief business development officer of Hannover Life Reassurance Bermuda, and was promoted to CEO of that business in 2015.

Cardinez takes over from Konrad Rentrup, the current CEO, who will retire at the end of June.

Rentrup has been CEO of Hannover Re’s Bermuda business since 2001 and was a driving force in building up Hannover Re’s cat hub in Bermuda.

He first joined Hannover Re as a trainee and spent his first year with the insurance corporation of Hannover in Los Angeles. He then spent five years focusing on treaty underwriting for the US market and moved on to become a team manager. He climbed the ranks to become general manager of Hannover Re’s North American property and casualty treaty business, and from there moved to Bermuda.
