Hawaii flood disaster funds cleared by president Trump
President Donald Trump has approved a major disaster declaration for the damage incurred by severe storms, flooding, landslides and mudslides between April 13 -16, 2018 on the Hawaiian islands of Kauai and Oahu.
The flood-stricken Hawaiian islands will receive federal funding for local recovery efforts and the repair and replacement of damaged facilities, according to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Federal funding is available to the state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organisations on a cost-sharing basis in the city and county of Honolulu and Kaua’i county, according to the statement.
The rainstorm reportedly destroyed 532 homes and caused an estimated $19.7 million in damage, most of it on Kauai.
Dolph A. Diemont has been named as the federal coordinating officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area. Diemont said additional designations may be made at a later date if warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
