IRB Brasil Re sends board leader and GenRe vet to C-suite

Brazil's major reinsurer  IRB Brasil Re tapped a recent board of directors acquisition taken from  Gen Re to trade in his board post, roll up his sleeves and lead underwriting from the C-suite.

Daniel Castillo will move from the board of directors to the C-suite as chief underwriting officer of IRB Brasil Re. He relieves CEO Marcos Falcão who had filled in at the additional post.

Castillo has put in four decades in the reinsurance sector, including national and regional leadership positions around the world for global names including Munich Re and General Re. He moved to the IRB Brasil Re board of directors from Gen Re in 2020.

Along the way, Castillo has held the positions of regional head of P&C for Latin America, Spain and Portugal; member of the global executive board and EVP of P&C treaty for Europe, Middle East, South Africa and Latin America; president of Gen Re Mexico; SVP and regional head for Europe, Africa and Latin America; president of General Cologne Re Correduria de Seguros in Spain and President of General Re Sur in Argentina. He also worked at Munich Re Canada, having worked at Bradesco and SulAmerica Seguros.
