The General Insurance Association of Japan (GIAJ) has reported that the total amount of claims paid relating to the Kumamoto Earthquake, as of May 16, is ¥180.1 billion ($1.6 billion).
Most of these payments (¥171.9 billion) were made in Kumamoto itself. A total of ¥4.8 billion claims were paid in Oita and ¥3.4 billion was paid out in Fukuoka.
The total number of claim payments made are 111,463 and number of settled cases currently stands at 122,849.
The number enquiries so far is 188,319.
In Kumamoto, there were 98,852 claim payments, 165,342 enquiries and 105,739 settled cases.
The 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes are a series of earthquakes which struck Kyushu Region, Japan in April.
They include a magnitude 7.0 mainshock which struck at 01:25 JST on April 16, 2016 (16:25 UTC on April 15) and a foreshock earthquake with a magnitude 6.2 at 21:26 JST (12:26 UTC) on April 14, 2016, at a depth of about 11 kilometres (6.8 mi).
The two earthquakes killed at least 49 people and injured about 3,000 others in total.
