Markel hires CFO of Hamilton at Lloyd’s
Specialist insurer Markel International has appointed Simon Barrett as new finance director.
Barrett will join the company at the end of the year. He will take over the position from Jeremy Noble who will become chief financial officer (CFO) of Markel Corporation.
Barrett joins Markel from Hamilton at Lloyd’s where he served as chief financial officer since 2015. Prior to that, for 12 years he was finance director for a number of XL Group’s UK subsidiaries, including its Lloyd’s syndicates.
Barrett will join the boards of Markel International Insurance Company and Markel Syndicate Management - the company's two London insurance entities. He will also be a member of the Markel International executive committee.
Noble commented: “Simon's deep market experience, commercial mindset, fresh perspective and history of working with organisations experiencing change, will be invaluable as we navigate the challenges of current market conditions, continue to grow the Markel International franchise and contribute to Markel's efforts to build one of the world's great companies.”
