Markel hires Skuld exec as senior underwriter in marine
Specialist insurer Markel International has expanded its marine and energy team with the appointment of Andy Lane as senior underwriter.
This follows the appointment of David Stallard as underwriter earlier in the year. Both Lane and Stallard focus on marine and subsea equipment, and will provide cover for inland contractor’s plant and cargo.
The appointments follow Markel’s recent additions to the marine and energy team to support the development of its marine trades and ports and terminal businesses.
Lane has 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, having most recently served as class underwriter for marine equipment at Skuld.
Prior to that, he held senior underwriting positions at Tokio Marine, CNA and RSA.
Stallard has 17 years of experience in the London marine market, both as an underwriter and a broker.
Paul Jenks, managing director of Markel’s marine, energy and property division, said: “Andy and David are successful market leaders in this specialist area of marine coverage. As our customer’s marine and transportation businesses become increasingly diversified, we have been actively broadening and extending the range of coverage that we offer so that we can provide them with the comprehensive service they are looking for.”
