MGAA chairman steps down as successor is named

The Managing General Agents’ Association (MGAA) has appointed Charles Manchester as its chairman following the decision of James Gerry to stand down.

Manchester will assume his responsibilities with immediate effect as Gerry stands down to concentrate on commercial commitments.

Manchester has over 30 years of insurance experience, and currently served as chief executive officer of Manchester Underwriting Management Ltd (MUM), an MGA business with an emphasis on financial lines, both through UK regional brokers and in the London market.

Peter Staddon, managing director of the MGAA, said: “We are sorry that James is not able to continue in the role of chairman and we want to extend him our thanks for his commitment to the Association.

”Charles has already brought the board the benefits of a strong understanding and experience in the MGA sector. In his role as chairman, the Association and its members will benefit from his commitment and vision to support the growth and development of the sector.”

Manchester added: “With the full support of the board, I will continue to drive ahead with a strategy to increase the focus on education, professionalism and ethics in the MGA sector, and build on our position and level of influence in the insurance industry.”
