Miller swoops on Marsh/Howden for renewables expansion

Specialist re/insurance broker Miller has drawn senior renewable energy specialists from rivals Marsh and RKH Speciality, with prior experiences at Willis, Gallagher and GCube, among others, to further build out its portfolio.

Hayley Malin joins as head of infrastructure in its construction team, and Laura Gil Ramirez as account executive in its renewable energy and environmental technology team (REET).

With 25 years’ experience in the insurance industry, including ten years specialising in the renewable energy sector, Malin comes from RKH Speciality. She has also held positions at Willis and Arthur J Gallagher. Alongside her Infrastructure team responsibility, she will also take a dual role in Miller’s REET team, deploying her renewable energy expertise across Miller’s infrastructure and REET client base.

Gil Ramirez joins Miller from Marsh where she was a client executive in renewable energy team for five years covering advisory, construction and operational risks for a variety of renewable clients. Previously, she worked at specialist renewable energy insurer GCube.

Miller appointed Rhys Newland as head of renewable energy and environmental technology in July 2021, and has since expanded the team through a number of hires as it continues to target the space as an important growth driver.

Newland said: “I am really pleased to welcome both Hayley and Laura to Miller. Their appointments reflect Miller’s ongoing commitment to develop our renewables offering and their experience reflects our focus on building a renewables and infrastructure offering that is underpinned by genuine global expertise and specialist knowledge in the renewable energy and environmental technology sector. We want to build a team of practitioners who are experienced and passionate about the sector to deliver best in class services to our clients, and I have no doubt that they will both be a great addition to Miller.”

Pauline Goreham, head of  construction, commented: “I am delighted to welcome Hayley to the team. Her deep knowledge of the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors makes her a natural fit for many of our infrastructure and REET investor and developer clients, as they grapple with the new global development projects that the energy transition will present. I very much look forward to working with her as we continue to develop and evolve our offering to meet the everchanging needs of clients.”
