MS Frontier’s new CEO, plus more people moves

Bermuda-based MS Frontier Re has appointed a new president and CEO. Starting on April 1, Toshiya Naito will take over the role from Keiichi Nakajima who will return to Japan to take on new responsibilities within MS Frontier Re’s parent company. Naito is a 25-year veteran with Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Company, the parent company and sole shareholder of MS Frontier Re. MS Frontier Group recently completed a reorganisation on January 1 which saw the closure of MS Frontier Re’s sister office in Dublin.

Guy Carpenter has made Tony Gallagher chief executive officer (CEO) of its Pacific Region. Gallagher will be based in Sydney and will report to James Nash, CEO of the firm’s Asia Pacific region. Prior to joining Guy Carpenter, Gallagher was the client service manager for Treaty in Australia and New Zealand for Gen Re.

Markel International has appointed James Hastings managing director of its professional and financial risks division. He replaces David Armes, who retired in December 2012 after more than 10 years with Markel. Hastings joins from QBE Insurance (Europe) where he has worked since 2005. In his most recent role he was an underwriting manager within the professional and financial lines division.  He has also worked for Hiscox as a professional indemnity, financial lines and commercial underwriter.

RFIB Holdings Limited (RFIB), the Lloyd’s insurance and reinsurance broker, has made Richard Boughton deputy managing director of its North American binding authority business. Boughton will join RFIB following his release from Bell & Clements and will be the eventual successor to David Wheal who is the current managing director of RFIB North America.

DUAL, the underwriting arm of Hyperion Insurance Group, has appointed Shane Doyle, deputy CEO of DUAL International, as CEO of DUAL’s UK businesses. He will also become DUAL’s group chief underwriting officer (CUO), overseeing global consistency in the approach to risk appetite and selection. Russell Kilpatrick, in addition to his role as chairman of DUAL UK, will take on the new role of executive director, Global Markets at DUAL International. Both Doyle and Kilpatrick will continue to report to Damien Coates, CEO of DUAL International. Finally, Paul Ferris, currently CUO of DUAL International, will take on the new role of chief risk officer for the DUAL Group.

Argo Group International Holdings has selected Kevin Rehnberg to head its US operations. As president of Argo Group US, Rehnberg will be based in its San Antonio headquarters and oversee all activities of the Company’s US business segments. Previously, Rehnberg served as executive vice president for specialty lines at OneBeacon Insurance where he oversaw its existing specialty underwriting operations while acquiring and building out new lines of specialty business. He held similar senior executive positions at The St. Paul Travelers Companies, Liberty International and The Chubb Corporation.

Miller has hired three senior reinsurance executives who will focus on the French market. Stéphane Nadjar joins from Willis Re in Paris (formerly Gras Savoye) where he was commercial director and a member of the management board. Eric Le Mercier joins Miller from Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty/Allianz Risk Transfer where he was head of Corporate Solutions/Alternative Risk Transfer. And Emmanuel Figuereau previously spent eight years at Willis Re (formerly Gras Savoye) in Paris where he was director of analytics, client executive and a member of the management board.

JLT Specialty has hired several new staff into its financial institutions team. Tracy Miller joins from Chubb Insurance where she was most recently senior underwriter in its financial institutions team. Roger Maxted was most recently a director for the Claims Division of AJ Gallagher with responsibility for financial & professional risk claims. And John Greene was most recently an account executive at Marsh following the purchase of HSBC Insurance Solutions in 2009, where he was a wholesale broker for large excess placements in the Bermudian insurance Markets.

Marsh & McLennan Companies has appointed Helen Shan as vice president and treasurer, effective April 15. In her new role, she will oversee all areas of the company’s global treasury organization, including capital management, pensions, investments, and cash management. She will report directly to chief financial officer Michael Bischoff.  She joins Marsh & McLennan Companies from Pitney Bowes.
