Pioneer Underwriters has launched a New York based specialist risk business.

Pioneer Special Risk of NY (PSR of NY) will be headed by Gary Dubois as president. He will be joined by Steve Sitterly as chief operating officer and product line executives, Scott Misson and Brian Hickey.

Dubois brings over 30 years’ underwriting and management experience to his new role. He joins from Crum & Forster subsidiary Seneca Insurance, where as president and CEO he focused on specialised niches within commercial property and casualty lines. He also served as president of its management and professional liability division.

He has also held positions at CAN, Liberty International Underwriters, Ariel Holding and Valiant Insurance Group.

PSR of NY will focus initially on management liability and professional liability, underwriting a combination of International D&O, professional lines and diversified financial services business. The team will target product lines that are amenable to being written on a non-admitted basis and will shortly expand to include lines such as trade credit, cyber/technology and structured professions at a later date.

“Gary has a wealth of experience in the specialty casualty sector that positions him perfectly to lead our new special risk business. He is a well known and respected figure in the market and has a track record of excellent leadership and business development. The appointment of someone of Gary’s calibre to lead PSR of NY emphasizes the potential we see in the US Specialty arena,” said Darren Doherty, CEO of Pioneer Underwriters.

Dubois added: “I’m greatly looking forward to leading the team here in New York. Scott and Brian's underwriting expertise, in conjunction with Steve’s experience and understanding of the operational requirements that underpin a profitable business, mean that we are well positioned to fulfil our ambition of growing PSR of NY into a key market player.”
