Pioneer Underwriters names Hazel Beveridge as new chief actuary

Pioneer Underwriters has appointed Hazel Beveridge as chief actuary. She will report to Andrew McMellin, CEO of Pioneer and will join the company's executive committee.

Beveridge has over 20 years’ experience of pricing and reserving and was most recently part of a specialised team within the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), responsible for the FRC’s actuarial standards and policies.

Prior to that, she was chief actuary and strategic director at DUAL International where she built out its actuarial and analytics function, and head of actuarial- capital and reserve risk at Markel International working on both the syndicate and company side. Hazel also held roles at Swiss Re and KPMG working in both London and Zurich.

McMellin said: “Actuarial excellence is a key differentiator in this market and we have committed to investing significant resources into expanding our capabilities in this area. Hazel’s expertise, longstanding experience in the market and sterling reputation will be a real asset to Pioneer as we build our business into the medium term.”
