Pioneer Underwriting launches new engineering business

Pioneer Underwriting has launched Pioneer Engineering, a new division underwriting engineering business globally, and appointed a dedicated engineering underwriter to run it.

Pioneer Engineering will initially underwrite both facultative and treaty engineering business on a worldwide basis.

Peter Rossell, who will run it, is a specialist in his field which includes erection and contractors all risks, delay in start-up and operational power, with business interruption.

Having begun his career with National Vulcan in Manchester in 1979, Rossell has more than 34 years of experience in the engineering sector, previously holding positions with Beazley and Flagstone Syndicate 1969. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

"The establishment of Pioneer Engineering and Peter's appointment is another landmark in the development of our business,” said Darren Doherty, chief executive officer of Pioneer.

“We will develop a unique offering into the market, with underwriters who have first-hand experience of relevant facultative market issues when talking to our treaty clients. Peter's vast knowledge and experience in the arena is an immense asset and I am pleased to welcome him to the Pioneer team."
