Probitas syndicate expands UK property & casualty teams with QBE hires

Probitas 1492, an underwriting syndicate at Lloyd’s specialising in property, construction and casualty insurance and reinsurance solutions, said July 6 that it hired Stephen Johnson as property underwriter, and Jim Meakins as casualty underwriter.

Johnson joins from QBE, where he held a property underwriter role and was responsible for developing the UK National Property portfolio in London.

Meakins also joins from QBE, where he was a casualty underwriter responsible for underwriting EL/PL and excess of loss for a broad range of sectors.

They will work together with Mark Pearce, senior underwriter – UK property, and Richard Beaumont, senior underwriter – UK casualty to continue to grow this area of the business.

Pearce commented: “With experience in the SME, Mid Corporate and Global Property markets, Stephen brings with him a focus on both the technical and developmental aspects of underwriting, which are crucial in executing our business plans. Having worked with Stephen before, I look forward to the energy, desire and fresh perspective he will bring to the team.”

Beaumont adde: “Jim is a fantastic acquisition for Probitas. His knowledge, experience and incredible work ethic will be key in building on the foundations we have put in place over the last 18 months.”
