SCOR overhauls P&C leadership to take advantage of changing market

French reinsurer SCOR has reshuffled the management structure of SCOR Global P&C by creating new positions and reorganising its reinsurance teams to take advantage of the improving market conditions.

The reinsurer said that it is approaching 2021 with a positive outlook, having absorbed the COVID-19 shock, and is making a number of changes to increase business agility to adapt faster to the evolving market.

"We aim at being more agile to faster adapt to the evolutions of markets with different levels of socioeconomic maturity, varied reinsurance market dynamics and increasing local regulatory pressures," said SCOR Global P&C CEO Jean-Paul Conoscente.

"In this context, we have decided to reinforce our regional structures to promote stronger regional views across all the P&C functions and platforms and to tailor our global strategies to the local realities."

The move has led to the creation of a new position of P&C regional head of EMEA and the Americas on top of its existing APAC organisation.

The company will also reorganise the reinsurance teams into four different regions "with more homogenous client needs", i.e. Europe, North America, APAC Mature markets, and Fast-Growth markets.

Globally, the changes within the reinsurance treaty management team will also include the creation of a global chief client officer to reinforce the internal infrastructure around client management.

Effective October 1, 2020, Stuart McMurdo will be promoted to regional head - EMEA (encompassing Europe and MEA), in addition to his current role of regional CEO for EMEA for specialty insurance. And, John Jenkins will be promoted to regional head - Americas (encompassing North and South America), in addition to his current role of CEO of reinsurance for the Americas.

Within the reinsurance organisation, under the leadership of CEO Michel Blanc and deputy CEO Umberto Gavazzi, Anne-Marie Cical will be promoted to regional CUO with Charles Bartlett as deputy regional CUO of Europe. Nick Nudo and David Johnstone will be promoted regional CUOs of North America and APAC Mature market, respectively.

Eric Jenck will be promoted to regional CUO with Pierre Favennec as deputy regional CUO of the Fast Growth markets. This new region encompasses the Middle East and Africa led by Hedi Hachicha; Latin America and the Caribbean led by James Grieve; and APAC Emerging markets led by Mukul Kishore.

In addition to these regional changes, Frank Coglianese will be promoted to global chief client officer.

Within the P&C Partners unit, including pricing & modelling and other transversal organisations, Benoit Liot will be promoted to chief retrocession officer and Doug Lacoss to global head of pricing & modelling designate.

Lastly, Guilhem Horvath will succeed Pierre Favennec as head of strategy, business development and marketing.
