THB names director for Africa expansion

Specialist re/insurance broker THB has appointed Rodrigo Botelho as director of its European division, effective October 1, to expand in Africa.

Based in THB’s Amsterdam office, Botelho will be responsible for targeting new markets in the Portuguese-speaking countries of Africa.

Botelho joins from Universal Seguros in Angola, where he held the position of chief corporate business officer with responsibility for reinsurance. He previously worked in Lisbon for leading Portuguese insurer Fidelidade Seguros and for Guy Carpenter.

“I am delighted to welcome Rodrigo to THB Europe,” said Joaquim Caria, managing director of THB Europe.

“With the backing of AmWINS, the largest US wholesale broker handling premiums of $13 billion, THB has ambitious expansion plans and this appointment is a key stage in furthering that strategy. We have identified a profitable opportunity in Portuguese-speaking Africa, and Rodrigo’s unparalleled experience in this area will support the ongoing dynamic growth across our targeted markets.”
