Zurich claims director joins Towergate

Towergate Insurance has appointed Jon Cawley, formerly director of UK motor claims and head of personal lines at Zurich, as head of claims within the underwriting division.

The appointment comes amid a shake-up of Towergate’s underwriting division.

Following its decision last year to change the focus of the division to bespoke and volume business instead of commercial and personal, the company introduced regional trading units and specialist units.

The regional trading teams will managed through three regions: north, south and London. All will report to David Bruce, chief executive officer of bespoke underwriting.

In addition, three new roles will be created all of which report to David Bruce.

Nick Wright, currently managing director of Fusion, has been appointed as sales and marketing director of bespoke underwriting.

Stewart Gardiner, currently underwriting director of Fusion, will become bespoke underwriting director.

The identity of the newly created role of operations director will be revealed “in due course”, said the company.

Volume underwriting has been enhanced with two newly created roles, both of which will report to Andy Westby, chief executive officer of volume underwriting.

Nel Mooy, currently managing director of volume commercial, will become the operations director for volume. Mooy will drive operational efficiency and effectiveness across all volume operations.

Simon Lewer, currently managing director of household, will become trading director, volume underwriting. Lewer will focus on the sales opportunities that exist for large deals.

Clive Nathan, chief executive officer of underwriting said: “In underwriting last year we successfully changed our division from a personal and commercial focus, to two distinct business models supporting ‘bespoke’ and ‘volume’ traded business. Our broker customers who deal in larger cases have told us that they want regional offices where more complex business can be traded on an individual basis. This is our bespoke business.

Those brokers who deal in larger volumes want efficient and largely e-enabled processes that give their customers the service they demand. That is how our Volume businesses will operate. Today we are announcing further improvements to our structures to support these distinct businesses. These changes help us build on a structure that will best support the future growth of our business. We will keep you updated on all our future plans.”
