P&C carriers return to underwriting gain in 2024 as loss costs settle

US P&C carriers swung back to an underwriting profit in 2024 after three consecutive years of losses, trimming five points from the reported combined ratio on very controlled loss trend, analysts at AM Best said in their first review of annual filings to the NAIC.
