A ‘dangerous mix’ threatens insurers after benign H1 nat-cat start

Global insured losses from natural disasters fell to $44 billion in the first half of 2026, well below the $66 billion five-year average, but Munich Re has warned that climate change, growing exposure continue to increase the risk of larger losses, while a potentially strong El Niño could shape catastrophe risks in the second half of the year.
