Canopius to expand financial lines business across Asia Pacific

Global specialty re/insurer Canopius has brought on board a senior hire from AXIS Capital, with prior experience at AXA XL and Lloyd’s Syndicate Catlin, aimed at launching a professional lines practice across Asia Pacific.

Robert Barnum (pictured) joins Canopius as underwriter - professional lines, Australia, & Asia-Pacific to expand its financial lines business across the region.

Based in Sydney, Barnum has over 10 years of financial lines experience, most recently serving as the head of professional lines & cyber Asia Pacific at Axis Capital in Singapore. Prior to that, he held similar roles at AXA XL and Lloyd’s Syndicate Catlin in Australia.

In his role at Canopius, Barnum will further expand the company's operation in the region by establishing a professional lines practice across APAC. His focus will be on open market professional indemnity and coverholder business in Australia, working closely with the wider casualty team.
