CFC draws 14-year SCOR veteran for leadership build out

CFC, a specialist insurer for emerging cyber risks, has bolstered its leadership ranks with the hiring of a 14-year SCOR veteran and former KPMG executive, following the recent appointments of a cybersecurity expert and a chief people officer.

Samantha Tanner has joined the business as chief actuary. Her appointment follows that of Nichola Archibald (pictured left) as interim chief people officer, Jason Hart (pictured right) as head of proactive cyber, and the formation of a dedicated M&A tax team with two Big Four accounting firm hires, Alejandra Hernandez Irizarry in London, and Courtney Alonzo in New York.

Tanner has over 20 years’ insurance experience both in the Lloyd’s market and internationally. Having started her actuarial career at KPMG Actuaries in Sydney, she moved to the UK in 2007. She has spent the last 14 years at SCOR, with her most recent role being UK chief actuary and strategy EMEA since July 2021.

Archibald has over 25 years’ experience across a broad range of industry sectors including insurance holding senior HR positions at Inter Hannover Plc and Hannover Re, RSA and Aviva. She has been providing HR consulting and executive coaching services to a variety of businesses for over a decade.

CFC chief performance officer Matt Taylor said: “Our product portfolio and the countries in which we do business have grown enormously over the past 23 years – so much so that we’re now writing 50 products across 20 classes in 90 countries around the world with a premium run rate of over £1BN. As we continue to expand our business, it’s increasingly important that we take strategic deep dives across our portfolio from underwriting performance to pricing strategies to ensure we continue to deliver sustainable and profitable growth for our business and capacity providers.

“Sam is a hugely talented actuary with an impressive track record of portfolio management and identifying new areas for growth, as well as developing strategies for tech enabled pricing systems – an area where CFC is setting the benchmark in specialist insurance. I am thrilled that we have been able to attract someone of such high calibre and look forward to working together to help CFC achieve its ambitious goals.”

Commenting on her new role, Tanner said: “CFC is an exciting business on an impressive growth journey. I’m delighted to join the executive leadership and help set the strategy to keep CFC at the forefront of the industry, driving innovation and setting the standard in emerging risk. ”

Hart is a thought leader in cybersecurity and a member of the Forbes Technology Council for the past five years. He has over two decades of experience in creating and developing information security offerings and services. He was most recently chief technology officer – EMEA at Nasdaq-listed cybersecurity platform, Rapid7, as well as supporting a number of cyber security and technology businesses as a board advisor. He founded one of the UK’s first ethical hacking companies, WhiteHat Security, and cloud-based authentication SaaS platform, CRYPTOCard.

In his newly created role, Hart will be responsible for leading the continued development of CFC’s cyber threat analysis, vulnerability and threat detection service.

Jonathan Fletcher, chief technology officer at CFC, said: “CFC has led the cyber insurance market in developing products that not only respond to cyber events, but seek to prevent them from occurring in the first place,” said . “In our view, proactively working to minimise cyber risk so that our customers can spend more time operating their businesses with confidence and thrive in today’s highly connected world, is the single most important job for any cyber insurer.

“Jason combines his technical skills with a pragmatic view on security, the ability to build teams, and to drive innovation and disruptive offerings at a global scale. I can’t think of a better person to help us accelerate the evolution of our proactive cyber service with new cutting-edge proprietary technology.”

Hart commented: “I am thrilled to be joining CFC to head up their proactive cyber capabilities. CFC is well known as an early pioneer in cyber insurance and an innovator in proactive threat prevention. I look forward to aligning my cybersecurity experience with the team’s deep knowledge and cutting-edge proprietary technology, to continue providing a market leading solution.”
