Aviva gets green light for digital joint venture in Hong Kong

The insurance joint venture of Aviva, Chinese investment company Hillhouse Capital Management and tech firm Tencent Holdings is expected to start operating under its new corporate structure during the first half of 2018.

The three companies have completed the transaction in Hong Kong, following regulatory approval by the Hong Kong Insurance Authority, Aviva said in a Feb. 13 press release.

Aviva, Hillhouse and Tencent first announced in January 2017 their agreement to develop an insurance joint venture in Hong Kong, by which Hillhouse and Tencent have acquired a combined 60 percent shareholding in Aviva Life Insurance Company (Aviva Hong Kong).
