Berkshire's BHSI taps UK head of casualty from Chubb

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has hired a new casualty leader from property/casualty insurer  Chubb.

Caroline Alder-Smurthwaite (pictured) has been appointed as head of general casualty, UK. She is based in BHSI’s office in London.

Alder-Smurthwaite comes to BHSI from Chubb, where she spent 12 years in increasingly senior positions, most recently London corporate casualty manager. She began her career on the claims side of the business at Gerling Insurance.

She has more than two decades of underwriting experience spanning a wide range of customers, including corporate and large multinational captive accounts.

Hilary Browne, head of casualty, UK & Europe, said: "[Alder-Smurthwaite] will play a pivotal leadership role in bringing its bespoke coverage, financial stability and service excellence to customers across the UK and around the globe, and it is my pleasure to welcome her to our UK team."
