Brit Global taps Validus talent to build terrorism offering

Speciality re/insurer Brit has appointed Andrew Umphress as vice president, terrorism, for Brit Global Specialty USA (BGSU).

Umphress joins from Validus Specialty where he was most recently assistant vice president, war and terrorism, having previously held a number of underwriting roles with the business.

Umphress will be based in New York and report to Sara Scott, Underwriting Director at BGSU.

In his new role, he will work closely with Brit’s existing war and terrorism team in London to develop BGSU’s new US-based offering.

Nick Davies, president, Brit Americas, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Andrew to BGSU. Brit is already an established leader for War and Terrorism in the London market and enhancing that position through our US platform is a logical extension. Andrew’s appointment underscores our ongoing strategy of hiring strong talent to support BGSU’s expertise, service and products as we focus on opportunities for scalability with sustained returns."
